Christmas can be a very busy, and overwhelming season, complete with high expectations and overloaded schedules. We love that Christmas is about gift-giving, family, and timeless traditions. But after a long season people often decide that this next year will be different…less money spent, less busyness, less family obligation, and a more peaceful approach to the holiday. But once the days get underway, changing the old habits is harder than we’d care to admit. We just get wrapped up in all of it.
Over the course of December, Dix Hills Free Church wants to help you enjoy the gifts, traditions, and family celebrations, while tearing off the wrapping that covers God’s unexpected gift.
December 4- UNWRAPPING GIFT-GIVING looks at the origin of gift-giving at Christmas, and how to get your gift-giving plans under control.
December 11- UNWRAPPING TRADITIONS will be a hilarious look at the traditions we have at Christmas, their purpose and origins, complete with a Children’s drama and music that will have you roaring in laughter…and thinking about your own traditions.
December 18- UNWRAPPING FAMILY takes a look at the challenging side of placing high expectations on family members and gatherings to make Christmas special. Sadly, past hurts in a family can mar the celebration for some.
The Evening of December 18 is a festive celebration of Christ’s birth. We have prepared music to sing together and music to listen to. Our choir has prepared the Hallelujah Chorus, and a number of other joyful pieces. Have a chance to sing great carols of Christmas like Silent Night, O Holy Night, and Joy to the World. We will also have Hot Coccoa, Coffee, and Christmas cookies.
Christmas Eve will be a spectacular reading of the Christmas story interjected with songs of the season. There is no better way to start your Christmas weekend, than with time centered on the arrival of Jesus. This service is at 4pm
