I started this morning thinking about the upcoming year and about things to focus on. One thing that has been echoing in my mind as a common theme for the past month the image of people in our community as wondering along anonymously in pain – even in the holidays. This has been a theme. So this morning when I started to read today’s Bible Reading online it was interesting to read:

Zech 10:1

Ask rain from the Lord

  in the season of the spring rain,
  from the Lord who makes the storm clouds,
   and he will give them showers of rain,
   to everyone the vegetation in the field.

For the household gods utter nonsense,
   and the diviners see lies;
   they tell false dreams
   and give empty consolation.

Therefore the people wander like sheep;
they are afflicted for lack of a shepherd.

 

People need direction and wisdom. We need it mostly from our Chief Shepherd Jesus, but also us under shepherds can help people see Jesus more clearly. – An interesting challenge.

It's an awesome  thing to see someone step outside their comfortable world and into the unknown. What is all the more amazing is that we get to walk with those who have ventured out because the globalization of communication makes it possible. check out Allison LaBianca's blog here

What can I say, i'm a sucker for free stuff...this is a good new book by Sam Storms with 100 devotional thoughts from the book of Colossians if you follow the link to WTS books you can read the introduction and first 7 chapters for free... worth a perusal. 

We're starting to read Torah proper - that is the books of the law that actually contain much of the laws in the Hebrew Bible. - I just read an article published in Trueman's journal - it's on Jesus and the law - obviously tough reading, but hey, there are some tough questions too... read here
